As I absolutely love baking, I was determined to do a Macaron making class to help me figure out why my Macs keep failing!? And where better to do so than in the country they originated? I signed up with Le Foodist Macaron class in Paris where I joined 6 other aspiring amateur pastry chefs to make 4 types of macarons.
Firstly, upon entering Le Foodist residence, I wanted to steal all the furniture! The place was lovely, with beautiful decor which provided a great setting for afternoon tea once we were done.
Our chef Frederic was very French and a lover of good food. He provided entertainment straight up just with his outgoing personality.
We started with the fillings; chocolate ganache, mocha ganache, vanilla creme and lemon curd.
Then onto the Italian meringue, made by making a sugar syrup and adding it slowly to the egg whites.
We chose a different colour each to dye our macarons and added the rest of the ingredients as instructed - it was hard work! I don't think my arms have gotten as good a workout for a long while!
Once the batter was mixed, it was time for piping.
Once baked for 12 mins, it was time to fill. The dark chocolate ganache tasted amazing in my pink macarons.
Now it was time for tea to enjoy our delicious treats in the beautiful dining area.
Thank you to Le Foodist for teaching me all the tricks of the trade and for a wonderful afternoon making macarons in Paris!
If you want to try making macarons yourself IN PARIS(!) I recommend this class at Le Foodist.
Happy Baking!
